Craftsman Kitchen Designs

These two craftsman inspired kitchen designs demonstrate how new materials and open planning can be reconciled stylishly with existing Craftsman period homes.

The space occupied by the first kitchen was a dark and needed very much to be brightened. This led to the decision to go with reflective countertop surfaces and white painted cabinets. The design of the cabinets themselves, with their simple but visible construction responded harmoniously with existing Craftsman details throughout the house.

The second kitchen has more contemporary lines but again takes its cue from Craftsman principles. Natural materials reveal their intrinsic qualities. Construction is exposed. What ornament there is derives from the construction techniques and practical needs. Stainless steel counters provide exceptional water resistance around the sink. The island uses Paperstone, a recycled material that wears well in food preparation areas and also has excellent heat resistance.
